Judge Michelle Thomason

Judge Michelle Thomason is the Presiding District Judge in Baldwin County.She is in her twelth year on the bench. Although she is a District Judge by title, she is a Circuit Judge by special appointment, as the majority of her caseload involves family court cases such as divorces, custody, child support and Protection from Abuse cases.Additionally, she handles all of the misdemeanor domestic violence cases in the county and she presides over the Baldwin County Veterans Court, which she founded in February of 2014. Judge Thomason has a business degree from Mobile College (now the University of Mobile) in 1992 and received her law degree from Tulane Law School in 1995. She was in banking and finance for ten years prior to deciding to change her career to the law. Prior to becoming a judge, she was a partner in the law firm of Pearson, Cummins & Hart, where she practiced primarily family law for over eleven years prior to taking the bench. She is the past president of the Alabama District Judges Association, the co-chair of the State’s Judicial Education Committee, on the Supreme Court Judicial Rules Committee, the Judicial Re-allocation Commission and is very active in other civil and charitable boards and organizations. She was also named Judge of the Year by the Alabama State Bar Family Law Section in 2016.She is also a frequent speaker around the state on issues related to domestic relations, domestic violence and Veterans’ Treatment Courts.
