Trust instruments are one of the most powerful tools available to elder law attorneys. There are a variety of trust instruments and each is important for a specific purpose. Just like working with tools in construction, it is important to use the right tool for the right job. The purpose of this presentation is to outline some of the most common tools available to the trust practitioner and to outline the pros and cons of each one.

Mr. Carney practices law in Birmingham, focusing on the areas of wills, estates, elder law and special needs planning. Mr. Carney earned his law degree from Tulane University Law School. He obtained a B.A. from the University of Alabama, majoring in Spanish and history. Mr. Carney has also earned a Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) professional designation. Mr. Carney is a member of the Alabama State Bar and the Birmingham Bar Association. He currently serves on the Board of the Alabama Lawyers Assistance Program and is a member of the State Bar’s Task Force on Attorney Health and Wellness.
