Dr. Mary Elizabeth Curtner-Smith is Associate Professor Emerita in the Department of Human Development and Family Studies at The University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.  Her research focuses on child development, the effects of parental divorce on children, and parent-child attachment relationships.  She consults on child custody cases and is trained to assist disputing parents mediate parenting plans.  She has worked on the Parenting Plans Project with colleagues from the Alabama Law Institute in Tuscaloosa, Alabama since 2014

Judge Adrian D. Johnson has served the citizens of Lowndes County, Alabama as District Judge since January of 2011. Judge Johnson graduated from Auburn University in 1997 with a BA in History, and from the Cumberland School of Law at Samford University in 2001. After practicing law with the Montgomery firm of Parnell & Crum for several years, he was appointed as the Lowndes County District Judge by Governor Bob Riley. Judge Johnson was re-elected to the bench in 2012 and 2018. In addition to serving as District Judge, Judge Johnson sits as a specially assigned Circuit Judge handling all domestic relations cases in Lowndes County, the 2nd Judicial Circuit Drug Court Program as well as circuit civil and criminal cases in Lowndes County, including numerous jury trials. He has been assigned by the Alabama Supreme Court as a specially appointed Circuit and District Judge to handle cases in the following counties: Butler, Choctaw, Crenshaw, Dallas, Houston, Lee, Montgomery, Marengo, Mobile, and Sumter. Judge Johnson served as President of the Alabama Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges from 2016-2017, and as President of the Alabama District Judges Association from 2018-2019. He serves on the Alabama Supreme Court’s Standing Committee on the Rules of Judicial Administration and has been a frequent speaker at judicial education events on the topic of juvenile delinquency. Judge Johnson serves as a commissioner on the Alabama Judicial Inquiry Commission and the Alabama Justice Information Commission. He serves on the board of directors of the Lowndes County Farmers Federation and the advisory council for the Family Service Center of Lowndes County. He has also serves on board of directors for the Family Guidance Center of Alabama and Alabama Children First. As chairman of the Lowndes County Children's Policy Council, Judge Johnson partnered with the Lowndes County Public School System to create an early warning truancy program and implemented the Character in Action Program, which has been a model for programs across Alabama. Through the Children’s Policy Council, Judge Johnson established a memorial scholarship to honor the memory of fallen Lowndes County Sheriff John Williams. He was recognized by the Lowndes County Public School System as the 2015-2016 and 2018-2019 Community Partner of the Year. Judge Johnson is also active with the Alabama State Bar, serving on the Bench and Bar COVID-19 civil task force, the search committee for the Executive Director of the Alabama State Bar, and is a member of Class 4 of the Alabama State Bar Leadership Forum. Judge Johnson and his family are members of the Hayneville Baptist Church, where he serves as a deacon and Sunday school teacher.  He and his wife, Mandy, have one daughter, Harper. The Johnson Family was selected as the Family of the Year in 2019 by the Family Guidance Center of Alabama.
