Join our Adult Guardianships and Conservatorships CLE seminar to navigate the complexities of managing the affairs of vulnerable adults. John Craft is a clinical professor at Faulkner University – Jones School of Law.  He received his B.A. degree from Auburn University and graduated cum laude from Jones School of Law.  Professor Craft is overall director of the law school’s experiential education programs.  He teaches and supervises the Elder Law Clinic where his students provide pro bono legal services for Montgomery-area seniors: preparing basic wills, living wills, and powers of attorney; providing representation during guardianship and conservatorship proceedings; and, assisting victims of elder abuse, neglect, and financial exploitation.

Professor Craft is past Chair of the Elder Law Section of the Alabama State Bar.  He is a member of the Alabama Interagency Council for the Prevention of Elder Abuse where he was the inaugural chair of its Legislative Advocacy Committee.  Professor Craft chaired the WINGS (Working Interdisciplinary Networks of Guardianship Stakeholders) Task Force in Alabama from 2017-2020.  WINGS was established to improve the state’s guardianship and conservatorship system, avoid unnecessary guardianship, promote less-restrictive alternatives to guardianship, and prevent and address abuse.  In 2021, he was appointed to the Supreme Court of Alabama’s Commission on Adult Guardianships and Conservatorships which continues the work of WINGS to improve the state’s guardianship system.

Ms. Dunning is a graduate of the University of Alabama at Birmingham and Birmingham School of Law, where she graduated cum laude.  She is admitted to practice law in the U.S. Federal District Courts of Alabama (Northern, and Middle Districts), and the State Courts of Alabama.  She has worked in the justice system for 32 years, first as a Juvenile Probation Officer and Magistrate, later as a private attorney, and finally as an Assistant Attorney General for the Alabama Department of Human Resources (DHR). From 1998 to 2007, she handled civil litigation in child protective services, child support, and administrative law hearings. In 2007 she became the managing attorney for the Jefferson County Legal Office, supervising up to 17 attorneys and support staff at various times, while handling complex litigation in the above areas.  Following the passage of the Elder Abuse Prevention Act of 2012 and the Protecting Alabama’s Elder’s Act of 2013, Ms. Dunning was chosen to lead DHR’s implementation and coordination of these acts through attorney, social worker and community partner training and policy revision, in addition to representing the Department in APS matters.  She currently works directly with nine North Central Alabama Counties, including Jefferson County, and consults with various county APS programs across the state.  She has served as an adjunct professor at both the undergraduate and post-graduate levels of several higher education institutions.   She is a member of the WINGS Task Force and the Alabama Law Institute’s Guardianship Reform Committee.

Hugh M. Lee joined the Department of Bioethics and Interdisciplinary Studies in January 2015. Prof. Lee holds a B.A. from Davidson College and a J.D. from the Florida State University College of Law. Prior to joining the Department, Prof. Lee taught for 19 years at The University of Alabama School of Law, where he taught a variety of courses, including the Elder Law Clinic, the Civil Clinic, and the Foreclosure Relief Clinic. With a special interest in elder and disability law, he directed the Elder Law Clinic, served on the Executive Committee of the Center for Mental Health and Aging, taught in the graduate school and department of psychology on issues related to aging, served on the board of several aging advocacy groups, served on the Executive Committee of the elder law section of the Alabama State Bar, and won grants from the Administration on Aging, the Alabama Department of Senior Services and the Alabama Attorney General's office.  Prof. Lee has published extensively in the areas of elder law, including Alabama Elder Law - an extensive treatise published by West Publishing Company and used widely by Alabama attorneys. His numerous articles including articles addressing incapacity, advance planning, surrogate decision-making, elder law and policy, foreclosure, and election law. He has presented at state and national conferences on issues affecting the elderly and has produced training materials for state and local aging advocates. For his work, Mr. Lee received the Alabama State Bar's Association's Pro Bono Award and its President’s Award.

A graduate of Loyola University, Ms. Campisi earned her law degree from Birmingham School of Law and her LL.M. from The University of Alabama School of Law. Ms. Campisi's passion is grounded in serving the legal needs of the elderly and the disabled. She helped create a network of attorneys sharing this passion when she served as founding chair of the Alabama Elder Law Section.  A Certified Elder Law Attorney through the National Elder Law Foundation, she is a career long member of the American Bar, Alabama State Board and the Birmingham Bar  Association. She is a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, Academy of Special Needs Planner, and also serves as a member of the Board of Directors for the Alzheimer's Association of Central Alabama, Alabama Coalition for Culture Change, and a member of the Board of Advocates of the UAB Center for Aging. As past President of the Alabama Family Trust, she now serves as Vice President of its Board of Trustees as well as Chairman of the Elder Law Services Committee of the Birmingham Bar.

Ms. Glass is a Certified Elder Law Attorney, having been certified by the National Elder Law Foundation in 2001. Ms. Glass has had extensive experience in the field of Elder Law.  She has been with the Elder Law Firm since 1997, and served as the attorney for the TARCOG Area Agency on Aging from 1987 to 1997. Prior to serving as Attorney for the Area Agency on Aging, Ms. Glass was on the staff of The University of Alabama School of Law, working in the Clinical Law Program and in the Trial Advocacy Program. She received her B.A. from the University of Alabama and her J.D. from The University of Alabama School of Law. She is a charter member of the Alabama State Bar Elder Law Section, and currently serves as the Chair of the Section.  She is a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, the National Elder Law Foundation and the Huntsville-Madison County Bar Association. Ms. Glass is a frequent speaker to senior and professional organizations on legal issues affecting the elderly.

Mr. McIntire is currently employed with the Office of General Counsel at the Alabama State Bar. Prior to attending law school, he was a police officer with the City of Tuscaloosa. He graduated from The University of Alabama School of Law in 2002. After law school, he served as an Assistant Attorney General in the Capital Litigation Division from 2002-2006, where he primarily handled Rule 32 appeals and federal habeas appeals.
