Born in rural Alabama in 1886, Black's upbringing and early career were shaped by his family's strong Democratic values and his own drive for intellectual curiosity. He went on to become a prominent lawyer, a US Senator, and ultimately, a Supreme Court justice, serving from 1937 to 1971. During his tenure, Black played a pivotal role in shaping landmark decisions on civil rights, civil liberties, and the Constitution's interpretation. Christopher Gerety, Protective Life Insurance Company
Mr. Gerety is an attorney with Protective Life in Birmingham. Prior to that, he served as a Vice President in the legal department of Region Banks; as General Counsel for a financial institution headquartered in Birmingham; and advised many companies across the states of Alabama and Florida while in private practice. Mr. Gerety received his J.D. from The University of Alabama School of Law and served as law clerk to federal Judge Robert Varner. He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and a Masters in Business Management degree from Birmingham-Southern College. Mr. Gerety is a long-time speaker and presider at CLE Alabama seminars.
